Six people have died after 13 cars of an Amtrak train jumped the tracks, according to authorities. Seventy-seven people were on board with five crew. The train was making its first-ever run along a faster new route.

At least six people have been killed, and 77 people were taken to hospital. The death count is expected to rise, a US official told AP.

Seventy-seven passengers and five crew members were aboard the Cascade 501 train when it was moving at more than 80 mph derailed about 40 miles from Seattle before 8 am, Amtrak said, according to the Associated Press.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Brooke Bova told reporters Monday afternoon that there were seven crew members, but she would not say how many died.

The train had 12 cars and two engines. Thirteen derailed, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper, Brooke Bova. She said five motor vehicles and two semi-tractor trailers were hit as derailed train cars landed on the south-bound lane of Interstate-5.

Calling the derailment “horrific,” Detective Ed Troyer from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office told reporters there are some rail cars emergency responders still can’t access. The emergency responders are working on shoring them up before accessing them. There may be more deceased passengers in those cars, Troyer said.

The Pierce County sheriff's office has released photos of the mangled train cars dangling off the overpass and blocking the highway.

The train was traveling from Tacoma to Olympia and derailed just west of DuPont, in Pierce County.

An airlift helicopter is on its way to the scene, according to KIRO.

Seventy-seven people have been transported to area hospitals after the derailment.

Passenger Chris Karnes said those on the train were forced to kick out train windows to exit, as the emergency doors were not functioning correctly.

"We had just passed the city of DuPont and it seemed like we were going around a curve," Karnes said, as quoted by CBS News. "All of a sudden, we felt this rocking and creaking noise, and it felt like we were heading down a hill. The next thing we know, we're being slammed into the front of our seats, windows are breaking, we stop, and there's water gushing out of the train. People were screaming."

"The tracks for this line were supposed to be upgraded to be able to handle higher speeds," Karnes continued. "I'm not sure what happened at this juncture."

President Donald Trump offered his “thoughts and prayers” on a tweet for those involved in the train derailment. He thanked first responders at the scene.

In his first tweet Trump focused on the need for quick approval of a plan for more spending on infrastructure.

The National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said the agency is sending a team of 20 to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee has thanked the first responders at the scene, and called the incident an "ongoing and serious situation."

The derailment occurred during morning rush hour, and shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, according to the Washington Department of Transportation. Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

The derailed cars are blocking the south-bound lanes of I-5, causing a three-mile backup of vehicles on the interstate, according to local media. I-5 has been closed until further notice.

Amtrak train 501 was part of a service that launched Monday morning. Trains 504 and 509 have been canceled, Amtrak said.

According to multiple reports, the train was traveling at the speed of over 80 miles per hour when it derailed.

It will take "all day or a couple of days" to clear the area and finish the investigation, Trooper Brooke Bova of Washington State Patrol told reporters. The highway will likely remain shut for the remainder of Monday, she dded.

The most obvious explanation is the decrepid infrastructure from an imperial power in decline because of a generation of constant wars.

It seems CNN is allowed to ask the questions...

While Donald Trump isn’t. The media can’t help themselves from rushing in to condemn the president from stating the obvious.

It’s insensitive you see

President Trump used the occasion of Monday’s fatal train crash in Washington state to tout his proposed infrastructure plan — one he has been promising since before the election but has yet to be announced.

The train accident that just occurred in DuPont, WA shows more than ever why our soon to be submitted infrastructure plan must be approved quickly,” wrote Trump via Twitter. “Seven trillion dollars spent in the Middle East while our roads, bridges, tunnels, railways (and more) crumble! Not for long!”

After 10 minutes of criticisms that he had ignored those killed and injured in the crash in a rush to politicize the issue, Trump issued his condolences.

The conspiracy theories will start almost immediately.

ANTIFA Under Investigation for Seattle/Tacoma Train Derailment! ! !

18 December, 2017

On Monday morning, an Amtrak train derailed while crossing an overpass in Dupont, Washington. Law enforcement say at least six people are dead and 78 others were injured. A now deleted article from “prominent,” far-left website It’s Going Down, boasted about an ANTIFA group pouring concrete on train tracks in Olympia, WA to protest Fracking. Today's AMTRAK derailment outside of Seattle/Tacoma, WA may be related!

The story is from April, but a more recent post from another far-left website, published just 9 days ago, is still up.

Olympia is a 20 minute drive from Dupont where today's AMTRAK derailment took place.

In late November, ANTIFA sabotaged a train in Olympia.

Police raided an ANTIFA encampment in Olympia following the train being sabotaged by anti-fracking activists — but the anarchists claiming credit for the act have vowed to continue until “every officer is down.”

Earlier this year, a prominent #Antifa website published an article taking credit for the sabotage of the train tracks in Olympia, WA. In this article they claimed to have poured concrete on the tracks. It has since been deleted,” tweeted Far-Left Watch.

Here is their article:

The short post via far-left website PUGET SOUND ANARCHISTS:

During this week we attached wire and jumper cables to the main Union Pacific rail line running through the state of Nebraska to disrupt rail signals and delay trains that mainly carry coal from the mountainous west to population centers in the east. Inspiration for us came from the blockade in Olympia, Unist’ot’en camp in unceded Wet’suwet’en territory, and other actions large and small across turtle island. until the complete destruction of time itself, love and rage from the middle of nowhere

Cernovich then tweeted an archived link to the deleted piece from It’s Going Down.

ANTIA group Its Going Down, in a now-deleted blog post, bragged about sabotaging train tracks. "Early in the morning of April 20th we poured concrete on the train tracks that lead out of the Port of Olympia to block any trains from using the tracks."

itsgoingdown.org reported:

Early in the morning of April 20th we poured concrete on the train tracks that lead out of the Port of Olympia to block any trains from using the tracks. We took precautions to notify BNSF (the train company) – we called them and we used wires to send a signal that the tracks were blocked. We did this not to avoid damaging a train, nothing would bring bigger grins to our faces, but to avoid the risk of injuring railway workers.

This action was done to disrupt the movement of trains carrying proppants used in natural gas fracturing. These train tracks are part of a system of pipelines, fracking wells, mines, clearcuts, control centers, fiberoptics, dams, highways and factories that cover the planet and are physical manifestations of a process that is destroying the ecosystems, cultures, and inhabitants everywhere. Behind this network of infrastructure there are politicians, CEOs and bureaucrats who have private security, cops, prison guards, non-profit directors, PR consultants and the legacy of 500 years of colonization to back them up. We oppose all of these manifestations, infrastructural, personal and ideological. We blocked the train tracks because we want to blockade the entire web of domination that is slowly killing us.

While law enforcement is still investigating the cause behind the train’s derailment, ANTIFA reportedly sabotaging the tracks and then deleting the post raises serious question about there potential involvement in Monday’s incident.

The Hal Turner Radio Show can now positively CONFIRM that law enforcement authorities at both the state and federal level are investigating ANTIFA for what they are describing as an act of terrorism.

Olympia, WA: Train Tracks Sabotaged To Stop Fracking Equipment

21 April, 2017

We were inspired to take this action by acts of resistance taking place across turtle island and the world, particularly the fierce indigenous resistance of water protectors against the Dakota Access Pipe Line, the encampment blocking a train full of fracking material on these same tracks in Olympia this past November, and the clandestine attacks against pipelines in Florida, South Dakota and Iowa.
We also were emboldened by the spirit of all those who have risen against the white supremacist police in Furguson, Baltimore, Oakland and elsewhere, as well as by the riotous opposition that has characterized the first few months of Donald Trump’s reign.

Resistance to this many-tendriled death machine has and must take many forms. Some have set their goals narrow and try just to stop the port from shipping proppants. We are aiming beyond, for a liberation that destroys all vestiges of oppression and colonization leaving us free to experiment with ways of living in cooperation on our own terms. We want to unlearn the legacies of domination that we have inherited. We need a diverse and vibrant resistance composed of more forms of destruction, mutual aid and solidarity than we can yet imagine.
This action and actions like it are quite easy to do yourself. This only took a few hours and a little bit of planning. The hardest part was calming our nerves. Particularly easy was placing wire on the tracks to send a signal to the train company that the tracks were blocked. This action can and has been easily repeated wherever train tracks are. For more info on how to do this check out this explanatory video.
